Claude Desktop supports packaged Desktop Extensions (.mcpb files) — a one-click way to install an MCP server without editing a config file by hand. DataGalaxy provides a ready-made .mcpb extension for its MCP Server.
Prefer editing a config file, or need Claude Code CLI support? See How to Add a DataGalaxy MCP Server to Claude Desktop for the
mcp-remote proxy approach instead. What you need before you start
- Claude Desktop, installed and up to date (macOS or Windows).
- Your DataGalaxy Personal Access Token (PAT) — found under Profile → Security.
- Your DataGalaxy MCP Server URL — found under the DataGalaxy MCP Server tab.
Install and configure the extension
- Download the
.mcpbfile for the DataGalaxy MCP Server extension.Attachment not carried over during migration. The original.mcpbfile (about 1.08 MB) needs to be re-uploaded to this page manually — it could not be transferred automatically from the source article. Please attach the current.mcpbbuild here.
- Double-click the downloaded
.mcpbfile (or right-click → Open with → Claude). Claude Desktop launches and shows an extension install prompt with the DataGalaxy extension's name, publisher, and the permissions it requests.Screenshot: extension install prompt in Claude Desktop. (Re-add this image here — the original Freshdesk link expires after a few days.)
- Review the extension details, then select Install. Claude Desktop adds the DataGalaxy extension to Settings → Extensions, where it appears alongside any other installed extensions.Screenshot: DataGalaxy extension listed under Settings → Extensions. (Re-add this image here.)
- Open the DataGalaxy extension's settings (from Settings → Extensions, select the extension, then Configure) and fill in the Server URL — your DataGalaxy MCP Server URL, in the format
https://<your instance>.api.datagalaxy.com/mcp/— and the Personal Access Token, your DataGalaxy PAT from What you need before you start. Save your changes.Screenshot: DataGalaxy extension configuration fields. (Re-add this image here.)
- Toggle the DataGalaxy extension on, if it isn't already, then restart Claude Desktop to make sure the connection is picked up.
- Open a new chat and ask Claude to list the available DataGalaxy tools, or ask a simple catalog question (e.g. "List my DataGalaxy workspaces"). A successful response confirms the extension is connected and authenticated.
Troubleshooting
- Extension won't install — make sure Claude Desktop is up to date; older versions may not support
.mcpbextensions.
- "Could not connect" after configuring — double-check the Server URL includes the trailing
/mcp/, and that the PAT hasn't expired (regenerate it under Profile → Security if needed).
- Extension installed but tools don't appear — confirm the toggle in Settings → Extensions is on, and restart Claude Desktop.
