How to Access DataGalaxy Data if Your Reporting Tool Doesn't Support Delta Sharing

Reach your usage data from Qlik, Tableau or Data Studio, either through our open-source REST API or by exporting it from Python.

2 min read

Some analytics platforms (like Power BI) have native Delta Sharing connectors. But if you use a reporting tool that doesn't directly support Delta Sharing (like Qlik, Tableau, Data Studio, etc.), we offer two simple ways to access your data.

To get access, please reach out to your account manager.

Option 1: use our open-source Qlik/Tableau-compatible project

We provide a small open-source project that:

  • Reads data from Delta Sharing (efficiently, via DuckDB)
  • Exposes that data through a paginated REST API (compatible with Qlik/Tableau/etc.)
  • Exports data to CSV or Parquet locally
The source article names the repository as Datalex-io/deltasharing-tool, but its own install instructions clone a different, placeholder URL (your-org/deltasharing-tool.git) that was never filled in. We couldn't independently verify either repository (likely private/internal), so we haven't guessed which is correct — please confirm the real repository URL before publishing this article.

Source code: Datalex-io/deltasharing-tool (URL to confirm — see callout above)

Quick install with Docker:

git clone <repository URL — to confirm>
cd deltasharing-tool
make up

Example API call:

curl "http://localhost:8000/data?from_date=2024-01-01&limit=1000"

A sample Python client is provided to simulate calls from Qlik or any other REST-compatible platform.

Option 2: export data from Python

If you use Python for your analysis, you can also export data from Delta Sharing directly to CSV or Parquet.

We recommend checking out: How to Access Your Platform's Usage Data from Python

That article provides a step-by-step guide to:

  • Enabling access and creating a token
  • Creating a Delta Sharing profile file
  • Using the Python delta-sharing library
  • Accessing data, listing tables, and loading DataFrames

This approach is designed to simplify connecting to your data and make it usable across all your notebooks and Python tools.

You can also use the open-source project mentioned above to automate the export.
