Client-space administrators configure the whole platform, so the role is worth assigning deliberately. This article covers who should hold it and what it unlocks.
Who can configure the client space?
Only users with a Data Steward license are eligible for client-space administrator privileges.
It's worth noting that administrators defined here have a role across the whole platform. This includes master workspaces and workspaces, with the ability to change many settings including default screens, attributes (including value lists), and more. So choose them carefully, asking:
- Will the platform be used cross-functionally across the organization?
- Which profiles will be involved with the platform?
- What's the organization's data-maturity level?
- Does data governance already exist?
- ...
Depending on the answers, here are some criteria to help narrow down the list of candidates:
- Ability to drive and promote the platform and its adoption.
- Understanding of both the functional and technical stakes of data management.
- Enough data-management knowledge to assist users on certain topics: connector deployment, modeling, technology management, etc.
- Enough standing to be part of discussions on the solution across different departments: usage, deployment, evolution, etc.
- Ability to identify the impact of change requests.
- Ability to arbitrate between conflicting change requests.
What permissions are available at the client-space level?
Client-space-level permissions essentially come down to whether or not a user has administrator status.
Being a client-space administrator lets a user:
- Manage users and licenses.
- Define custom attributes for the whole platform.
- Define default screens for the whole platform.
- Manage integrations with other tools (e.g. by creating Service accounts/Tokens).
Client-space administrator status is reserved for users with a Data Steward license.
