Licenses and permissions decide what each user can see and do in DataGalaxy, at both the client-space and workspace levels.
How do licenses work?
User and permission management in DataGalaxy relies on several concepts:
- License level.
- Client-space-level permissions.
- Workspace-level permissions.
A user's license level directly affects their permissions, as well as which features are available to them in the platform.
What licenses does DataGalaxy offer?
DataGalaxy offers 2 license types, each unlocking further levels of permissions:
- Data Steward, which grants rights to:
- Administer the client space.
- Administer one or more workspaces.
- Edit and view content in workspaces.
- Interact with other users (tasks and comments).
- Data Reader, which grants rights to:
- View content in workspaces.
- Interact with other users (comments only).
A third license type (Data Explorer) may still come up. This is a legacy license, no longer available today. It used to grant rights to:
- Edit and view content in workspaces.
- Interact with other users (tasks and comments).
How do administration capabilities work?
DataGalaxy has 3 types of administration:
- User, license, and permission administration:
- Covers managing users and their access rights to the platform, by granting or revoking licenses and/or permissions.
- Functional administration:
- Organizes data governance — for example, defining the structure of objects (managing custom attributes and screens, tag administration, etc.).
- Technical administration:
- Manages integrations between DataGalaxy and other platforms: communicating with other collaborative platforms, creating service accounts, etc.
These roles can be managed at 2 levels:
- Client space.
- Workspace.
